An open letter to the New Moon cast & crew:
(because I know you’ll be looking for the fan reviews – they’re the ones that really matter, right?)

Guys – it’s awesome! Well done, everyone. You’ve kept to the essence of the book, and you’ve given the film it’s own dynamic. Comparisons with Twilight would be pointless – they are different and equal (tho, that said, the sparkles *are* way better now, agreed?)

Kristen – you angel! Bella is the one we’re identifying with, and you embody and interpret her to perfection. You make it easy for us to feel what she’s feeling, think what she’s thinking, to ‘be’ Bella, just as we were in the books. I trust you with this character. And you certainly bring out the best in your co-stars. The dynamics between you & Rob & Taylor give the heart to the movies.

Robert – what can I say? You have given me, again, ‘my’ Edward. And ‘our’ collective Edward, going by the vibe in the theatre. Your magnetism is breath-taking. Specifically, I think you were wondering if you got the break-up scene right? Absolutely. Spot On. Nailed It. Perfect, *and* the lead-up to it.

Taylor – Wow! Everyone was talking about your performance, and it’s all good. *So* impressed with you – we knew you’d had to bulk up & work out, but we didn’t know how much your acting had matured and grown. Until tonight. The faith everyone had in you is fully justified. Outstanding, well done.

Chris W – OK, reputation restored. Completely happy. Thank you!

And a special shout-out to the special effects and CGI crews – sparkles, transformations, fight scenes, hunt ‘n’ chase – you did them all flawlessly. Your dedication *is* recognised & appreciated.

There’s *so* much to this movie, so much nuance & detail, so many key scenes to comment on, so many of the cast to give bouquets to. It’s too much to take in with one viewing, so I’ll see it again and come back with more…

It is literally breaking dawn outside my window now. Loved that midnight showing! Oh yeah!

  7. Linda says:

Saw NM @ midnight and was not disappointed. Love it love it and the ending OMG!

  8. sarah says:

New Moon is the best film it was so well made and was alot like the book and the bit that isnt in the book worked well in the movie. if you compair New Moon to Twilight. New Moon wins its in a whole other league from twilight. i cant say enought how great it was

  9. Kranendonk says:

New Moon Was AWESOME!!! Chris did a great Job! So much better then Twilight! Although, how it ended was a bit annoying! Cant wait for “Eclipse’

  10. Nadyne says:

Great movie ! loved it and thought it was better than the book.

  11. Yvette says:

    I preferred Twilight.
I felt drained when I came out of the cinema. I miss the intensity and gentleness that Catherine Hardwick had to bring to the first installment.

I was enjoyable, but it did not follow through on the twilight we all fell in love with, instead it pulled on the “good looks” of Rob and Taylor, and more comedy was introduced.

The most disappointing part of the movie, was the end, leaving us hanging with a cliff hanger ending is a cheap trick. Twilight is no soap opera. Please don’t insult us fans.

  12. Emily says:

NEW MOON IS THE BEST MOVIE. If you havn’t got your tickets yet, buy them. Chris Weitz is a genius, the way in which he show the passing of the depressing months for Bella was brilliant. Also, thanks to Melissa Rosenburg for keeping it so close to the wonderful book. It shows nearly every aspect of the book. The movie is so much better than Twilight was. This movie doesn’t even feel like a sequel, it would be able to stand by itself and still do brilliantly. The best movie of this year, 5 stars.

  13. OzM says:

New Moon completely blew me away! This movie exceeded all my expectations. Chris Weitz is my hero! Kristen Rob Taylor & the whole cast were great. I can’t wait to see it again. I am waiting for the US fandom to explode in a mass of fangirling, I think that I can almost hear it now :)

  14. Carol says:

Loved it, totally awesome, Edward is even more freakingly beautiful but Jake is ‘Mr Buff Bod’, yup!
The atmosphere was in party mode but thankfully not so screamy loud, you could actually follow the dialogue. I am so going to see it again…stat!

  15. Ashley says:

I went to the midnight premiere and watched twilight before at 9pm and not only new moon but the whole experiance was amazing. Ive always been on both teams but jacob steals the show in this movie ;) but of course i still love edward. Amazing movie!

  16. jen.k says:

Went to see New Moon last night!!! I thought it was a great movie, Jacob looks fantastic,he really was the star of this movie!!! (& Iam a 100% Rpatz fan). The wolf pack & the human/wolf transformations where just awesome!!!!The movie mostly followed the book well, it had a little more action & better special effects than Twilight. However, I felt a bit disappointed at the cullens ” new look “. Their eyes a bit creepy & the make up left them looking too pasty white, even for vampires!!!The movie for me also lacked the intense chemistry, emotions,& sexual tension that got me so hooked on Twilight in the first place . Catherine Hardwicke did a much better job of the emotional & chemistry than Chris W did ,in my opinion. But overall I really enjoyed Newmoon & can’t wait for Eclipse next year!!!!!!!

  17. Tania says:

Wow, the movie blew me away… I loved it and found that the actors had really settled into their character and looked much more comfortable. Definately will be going again and again to soak it all up on the big screen!!

  18. twifan mum says:

Finally, my favourite book of the saga hits the big screen and let me say that Chris Weitz did not disappoint. New Moon was visually gorgeous, action packed, and both the wolf pack and Volturi were fantabulous. Taylor really stepped up and Rob was as hot as ever and altough i am team edward the star was very much Kristen. she really rocked and you could really feel her every emotion. Good job! My only complaint is the same as twilight -the script- not enough dialogue between Edward and Bella to really appreciate their relationship or Edwards devotion if you haven’t read the book. I will be seeing it many more times!

  19. Fiona says:

It was AMAZING from START to FINISH. The ending was OH MY GOD. Well worth watching a second, third, fourth even 10 times more!
I am very much Team Edward, but you begin to understand Jacob as a character more.

  20. Bella says:

This was the best movie ive seen in my hole life and ive seen alot trust me. it lived up to the book and was perfect! :) :)

  21. Helen Weust says:

Saw New Moon last night and it was totally worth the wait and the very late night!

  22. DellaP says:

It was totally awesome !! Watched the double feature with Twighlight at 9h30pm and New Moon just after midnight. The mood was so festive and I was glad to see that as many people squealed for Jacob’s first shirtless scene as did for Edward !!
Had an amazing time, and loved every minute of it….now I am just gonna have to go again, if for nothing more than watching more of Jacob !!

  23. Nic says:

CW, you did a job well done! Can’t believe how you kept it close to the book and the cast pulled off a great and epic performance, Fantastico!
Thanks to ECU for the free screening, great night out with my daughter and whilst we disagree on who’s side we’re on, there is one thing we both agree on – it was an awesome movie, we talked all the way home!
Am definately seeing this again & again…

  24. Amanda says:

i didn’t like it, tooo funny the book was WAY better i understand that it would have been extremly difficult to but into a movie but i expected it to be sad and instead it was full of funny one liners, sorry Chris but you shouldn’t stoop so low and the ending i mean come on its not like we don’t know what happens, don’t treat us like fools, we aren’t all 15 or under.and the kiss come on i kiss my bff with more passion, and Roseale looked to different. the contacts TOO yellow and TOO red i liked the old ones more believable 7/10 only because you put rob in more but really i should deduct points cause thats not how it goes down in the book.

  25. Che says:

New Moon was awesome, great action, Jacob was definitely the standout, he was awesome. So happy Taylor beefed up for the part did’t know if he was gonna pull it off but he was GREAT. Only two things to gripe about, I felt all the cullens looked too pale and wierd, they didn’t look as good as they did in twilight (what’s with Edwards lipstick) and secondly, the movie wasn’t long enough, I loved it so much I coulda kept watching it, I felt it was a bit choppy and rushed but still awesome. Great job. Went to the midnight screening and going again soon.

  26. Veronica says:

HI!!! I JUST SAW THE MOVIE AND IM HERE JUST TO TELL ONE THING: DONT WE DESERVE MORE THAN JUST TWO HOURS ?? I LIKED A LOT BUT HONESTLY IT WASNT ENOUGH!!!!!! THE MOVIE WENT REALLY FAST AND THE BEUTIFULL EMOTION THAT THE BOOKS GIVES NOT APPEARS IN THE MOVIE. IF THIS TWILIGHT SAGA IS A WORLD EVENT AND THERE ARE MILLIONS OF FANS WHY ITS JUST A 2 HOURS MOVIE AND NOT 2 AND A HALF OR 3 HOURS ONE JUST LIKE THE LORD OF THE RING… I WANT TO SEE THE MAGIC OF THE BOOK IN THE NEXT MOVIES!!!

  27. Lucy says:

I loved it it was amazing went to the midnight premiere at perth loved it but not better than twilight they were both awesonme only disspointed bout on e thing which is the quilete storys which are missing….. :(

  28. team edward says:

wow. just wow. the movie was sooooo close to the book, i love how they even included some specific quotes. better acting all round (especially taylor he was fantastic), special FX, directing and i LOVED how they added in plenty of funny lines, it balanced out the drama/angst/depression side of the movie. overall, i was extremely happy with this movie, it was WAY better that twilight and just awesome. have seen it twice and going again tomorrow. love it :D

  29. Natty says:

I didn’t really like the acting in it. I thought it followed the book better then Twilight did, I liked the wolves and Taylor, but it was hard to understand the audio at times and the vampire eye colours were a little over the top… It did the job of transcribing from page to screen. Hmm. I think Eclipse may be better, I’m looking forward to it.

  30. Karla says:

new moon was a thousand times better than twilight!
the acting was better from everybody (except rpatz, what was going on with his facial expressions!?)

cgi was better, hair was better, makeup was better, contacts were better and the directing was better!

    loved it.

  31. Claire says:

saw it today and OMG I LOVED IT. taylor was SO HOT IN IT and it was so funny!
much better than Twilight loved the action and the wolves, but boring in maybe 2 scenes but great work so buying the dvd and cant wait for eclipse. my favourite book in the series finally into a great movie. but i think i liked the book better in a way… dakota looked SO SCARY love the new looks for the cullens just suites them PERFECT see it again anytime xoxo

  32. Lindyl says:

Sorry about this but quite simply……I didn’t like it. The scenery was dull, the soundtrack un-inspired and the special effects lacklustre. Bring back CATHERINE HARDWICKE I say! I did like Kristen Stewart in this; particularly the scene of her running across the town square in Voltura. Does that tell you something? That was one of my favourite scenes (I liked the slo-mo). Edward came across as a a drip throughout the film. Which was hugely disappointing! Pattinson potrayed Edward so beautifully in Twighlight. The only actor who truly excelled was Taylor Lautner as Jacob. He made the movie worth watching. He was believable, up-beat and genuine in his portrayal of wolf boy Jake. I’m now a firm fan and I can’t believe he is only 17 (that can’t be right????) Ashley Greene as Alice annoyed me unbelievably throughout the entire movie. And she was so beautiful in Twighlight! Charlie Swan was quite funny. I liked Christina Sarrantos as Angela. Jessica, Mike and Eric I could have done without. Dakota Fanning – ugghhh and the scenes with the Volturi; so boring! Yada, Yada, Yada; so on and so forth; etc etc etc. Twighlight was SOOO much better! Please install a better director and screen-writer for Eclipse and get CATHERINE HARDWICKE BACK!!!!

  33. Alicia says:

I went to the midnight screening and then three session times in one day (i saw it 4 times in a 24 hour space!) i absolutely love it, doesn’t hold a candle to twilight! Chris Weitz has done a marvelous job. I was blown away by the special effects, Kristen’s performance was very moving, and Taylor lived up to expectations (hello biceps?!), as always Robert Pattinson blew my mind the minute he walked on the screen. It was sad at all the right times but allowed for elements of humor throughout the movie. i give it a 9/10, only because they didn’t have kmy favourite line from the book in it- selfish i know but that disappointed me

  34. Steph says:

    GOD, the movie was AMAZING.
Only got 4 hours sleep for watching it at midnight.
    But it was GREAAATTT.
Funny and TOTALLY like the books.
LUURVED every bit of it. :D
Thank God there was more Taylor in this one, too.

  35. v,cullen says:

I watched the midnight session and again on Sat..it was much better than expected..Robert played Edward brilliantly and Kristen was also good. Taylor great job!! The wolf pack’s acting ability was abit poor though. However why the heck wasn’t the airplane scene in the movie-the bit where Bella refuses to sleep-just to see Edward. Also the scenes when they arrive in Forkes and the way Charlie goes off at Edward. They were the great scenes. I think some bits of the movies just was cut and rush..they go to Italy and then Bella is in her room. Man I really hope they put the “tent” scene and the scene where Edward comes back from hunting trip and Bella was gonna show him what an angry Bear was like. Overall it good-I’m seeing the movie again, just so I can see Robpatz as Edward-the moment Edward was in the first scene, my heart just missed a beat or two….Team Edward all the way.

  36. v,cullen says:

just adding on to the above…pls don’t forget those scenes in Eclipse!!!
They are the defying scenes from the books. Eclipse by far is my favourite book…

  37. Mayonnaise says:

I did appreciate the Special Effects in New Moon and the quality of the scenery etc… The part where Bella was depressed and the months passed were done very well.

However, I still felt quite disappointed. I felt like some scenes were rushed and did not convey the sad emotions when edward leaves as portrayed in the book. Bigger budget for the film does not mean that other things can be cut out, overlooked or compromised.

I liked how catherine hardwicke put a lot of thought to integrate the music into the movie and make them work together. The music should suit the mood in the scene. I felt Chris the new director shoved bits of music in various scenes for the sake of it…cos its on the soundtrack. It didnt flow right. Other bits were corny (alice’s vision/prediction of what bella wud look like as a vampire)

Most of the dialogue with the Volturi was a bit mumbly and if i had not read the book, i would not understand why one of the volturi was holding edward’s hand…… I want to like new moon. Perhaps seeing it for the second time around may change my opinion. I dont know if i am being overly critical…. Anyone else share my views??
